A WORLD THAT FORGOT APPRECIATION — ✦ — MUTLU YİĞİT

In the fast and exhausting agenda of 2025, people talk a lot, share a lot; yet those who truly listen, support, and appreciate achievements are almost nonexistent. At times in professional life, at times in artistic or spiritual pursuits, the support one expects from the closest circle often turns into silence at the very moment it is most needed. True closeness and friendship reveal themselves right here: being present, offering encouragement, and giving appreciation selflessly.

By nature, human beings are inclined to prioritize their own interests. This cannot be denied. Yet there is a fine line here: being self-interested may be part of human nature, but being able to also bring benefit to one’s family, community, and society remains one of the most precious virtues. To offer support without expecting anything in return not only nourishes one’s own soul but also lightens the burden of others.

From a psychological perspective, being appreciated is undoubtedly a need. When it is absent, disappointment arises. Yet true maturity lies in continuing to be of benefit even without recognition. When a person acknowledges the value of their own efforts, the silence of others does not diminish them; on the contrary, it strengthens their inner power.

From an Islamic perspective, the matter is even clearer. The true owner of appreciation is not humankind but Allah. As long as one keeps their intention pure, even the smallest act of goodness holds value. The silence or envy of people is, in fact, a test: it serves as a reminder of the question, “For whom are you creating?”

The lesson to be drawn here is clear:

  • True friendship is understood through unconditional support.
  • An empty crowd is, as its name suggests, empty; it carries neither meaning nor value.
  • Solitude, when embraced in the right way, is a strength; it allows a person to see themselves, their intentions, and their Lord more clearly.
  • Even without recognition, continuing to be helpful and to create increases a person’s inner worth.

And the truth posed in the title emerges once again: It is possible to live in a world that has forgotten appreciation; yet the real matter is to keep being helpful, to keep creating, and to keep walking on the right path with the right people — even without recognition.

Silences, indifference, and lack of support are in fact the clearest mirror for measuring closeness and friendship. See these moments as opportunities; keep moving forward on your path without slowing down, and continue adding new achievements. Let yourself remain a role model, an example for others to follow.

Remember, the greatest investment is the one you make in yourself.

Not: Note: Once you grasp the true reality, you will see that you are not dependent on the appreciation of others. This piece will not feel empty to you; on the contrary, it will serve as a means for gaining inner awareness.

With peace and affection.
